Popularity is the best revenge.

In the final weeks of eighth grade, Lauren Wood made a choice. She betrayed her best friend, Helen, in a manner so publicly humiliating that Helen had to move to a new town just to save face. Ditching Helen was worth it, though, because Lauren started high school as one of the It Girls--and now, at the start of her senior year, she's the cheerleading captain, the quarterback's girlfriend, and the undisputed queen bee. Lauren has everything she's ever wanted, and she has forgotten all about her ex-best friend.

But Helen could never forget Lauren. After three years of obsessing, she's moving back to her old town. She has a new name and a new look, but she hasn't dropped her old grudges. She has a detailed plan to bring down her former BFF by taking away everything that's ever been important to Lauren—starting with her boyfriend.

Watch out, Lauren Wood. Things are about to get bitchy.

Jenn: In my book The Ex Games, Hayden has to overcome her fear of heights to make it as a professional snowboarder. What are your characters afraid of, and how do they conquer their fears?

Eileen: Helen is pretty fearless. She’s out for revenge on her ex-best friend Lauren who hurt her really badly back in eighth grade. As the book goes on I think she begins to fear that having the revenge she’s been seeking may not give her the satisfaction she was hoping for.

Jenn: What has been your greatest fear as a writer, and how have you dealt with it?

Eileen: That people won’t like my books. Then I realized that it wasn’t an irrational fear. There will be people who (gasp) don’t like my book, but there will also be people who (yay) love the book. I realized that it’s impossible to please everyone and what I needed to do is write the best book possible and hope for the best.

Jenn: In The Ex Games, Hayden goes head-to-head with her ex-boyfriend in a snowboarding challenge. Are you involved in any sports? How do you think being a woman has affected you as an athlete?

Eileen: I am terminally klutzy. I can trip over a single mote of dust. I was the kid that was always picked last for teams and ended up getting smacked in the face with the ball. I go to the gym on a regular basis, but everyone gives me a wide berth in case I go flying off the back of the treadmill.

Jenn: For good or ill, I design my own web site. Who designed yours? What’s your favorite part of your web site that you wish more people would visit?

Eileen: My husband designed my website. I married for love, but I’m willing to admit that having in home IT support hasn’t been bad! I do a blog where I post a few times a week and I’d love to have even more people stop by!

Jenn: What’s your favorite gizmo advertising your book?
Eileen: Here is my You Tube book trailer--an early reader made it for me and I love it!

Thanks for visiting, Eileen, and good luck with the release!
