My first book signing!

I mean, my first book signing with books, since my books didn’t show up for the book signing in Atlanta. Let’s try this again!

I’ll be on a panel discussing writing romance with Deidre Knight, Wendy Wax, and Kelley St. John as part of the Wetumpka Writers’ Workshop Series on Saturday, August 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Wetumpka Public Library in Wetumpka, Alabama (near Montgomery; the movie Big Fish was filmed there). A small fee applies for the workshop, but if you’d like to come for the book signing only, the folks tell me you should arrive between 11:30 and noon. Details here.

I’m looking forward to spending a little quality time in a town I’ve driven through a million times but haven’t visited in a while. I grew up in Alexander City, and Wetumpka was on our way to Montgomery, where the nearest mall is located. At the time Alexander City didn’t have a McDonald’s, either. This became a pressing issue when I was in junior high and Chicken McNuggets were introduced. We thought we were missing out on the revolution. So Wetumpka was also famous in Alexander City as the nearest town with a McDonald’s. I once turned down an invitation to a church lock-in, and the boy tried to change my mind: “But we will have Chicken McNuggets there! We are driving to Wetumpka before the lock-in to get Chicken McNuggets!” I am not making this up.
